SA Fashion Week- Catwalk Observations

Unfortunately I could not attend SA Fashion week this year, so I did a little internet research to see what went down in the Shine Studio's in Braamfontein. The first site I visited was Hautefashionafrica.com, and to be honest, wasn’t that impressed. They didn’t paint a realistic picture of what fashion week was like- they praised all the designers and had nothing bad to say about anyone, but they did have good photos…so I decided to push the pause button on my research, and to not cloud my judgement, pick my favorite designers purely on their photos…

The first outfit that literally jumped out of the screen at me, was a two-toned, flowy, silky masterpiece that turned out to be part of Joel Jansen Van Vuurens collection. I swear this dress deserves to be worn by an angel in a painting by one of the old masters…the folds in the silk fabric and the way it fell on her body, gently outlining her silhouette was pure genius. I thought that the two toned dyed effect was beautiful and essential to its success-it gave the dresses an edgy hippy come exotic bird vibe. The other dresses where not as amazing but I liked this purple and yellow one too.

Another designer that caught my eye, where the Smarteez. I have always been so intrigued by them and think that they, in my opinion, may be the most original, coolest dressed group of people in the whole of South Africa. I was not aware that they were going to be showing at SA Fashion week! I loved some of their menswear which is typical of their style-eclectic, colourful and just stylish, but wasn’t so taken by some of the other outfits…one was this ruched leather dress, and another was this messy hooded outfit that just did not match the others…They have so much potential, I just hope to see more from them in the future with a more coherent range.

Suburban Grunge

Imogen, my sister and I sitting on the edge of the street in my suburb. My glasses are my grans- they remind me of Kurt Cobain's cool white glasses.

I am wearing a striped jersey by Trenery, spotted shorts from Foshini, tights from Woolworths and high-heeled ankle boots from Aldo. My sister, Imogen, is wearing a pink jersey from County Road, tights from Woolworths and boots from YDE.

Imogen is wearing a grey jersey from Sissy Boy, High waisted shorts from Jay Jays and stocking from Woolworths. Picture taken in back yard.

Me by a tree in my garden. I am wearing the same jersey from Trenery, a floral dress from Rozanne & Pushkin, a leather sling bag from Aldo, boots from YDE and tights from Woolworths.

Imogen is wearing a black jersey from Jay Jays, a floral skirt from YDE, stocking from Woolworths and high- heeled boots from Aldo.

Later that day...

We had macaroons...YUM

Thanks for reading my second post :)

Whats to come...

This winter I’ve been wearing a lot of stockings with skirts or shorts paired with over-sized jerseys. My inspiration is my all time favourite, grunge but a subtle, pretty take on it…you know that movie The Virgin Suicides? It's set in 70's suburbia and the characters all wear pretty 70's clothes and the scenes are very soft and dreamy...well my plan is to craete a Virgin Suicide look set in the nineties with grungy clothing...I plan to take a few photos over the next few days of me and my sister in a few outfits…Here's a few pics from The Virgin Suicides...
